An official of the Ministry of Human Rights has stated that the government’s initiative to provide 5 million affordable houses to the country’s citizens is intended to overcome the immense scale of the problems facing the housing sector for low and middle class sections of the public. Speaking to the media, the official added that the Naya Pakistan Housing Program will meet acute urban housing shortages. 25% of the housing units will be required for lower-middle income groups, 10% will be reserved for higher and upper middle income groups, while 62% will be earmarked for lower income groups.
Nearly 1.5 million people have registered with the authority in different cities of the country in order to obtain a house under this scheme. She hoped that NPHP will facilitate the large population of the homeless in Pakistan, and will further extend help to the people of Hyderabad, Faisalabad, Multan, Peshawar, Quetta and other cities.
